Curatorial Projects

Russell has curated over 20 art shows, starting with Spooky Truths for a Red Cross Conference on Institutionalized Discrimination at Hal D in 2007 in Copenhagen. In Summer 2016, 2017 and 2018, she co-curated two shows at the Diego Gallery, two shows at the Swell Gallery, and two shows at the Walter and McBean Galleries at San Francisco Art Institute.



Selected Writing Projects

From 2011 to 2017, Russell was a mentor with Afghan Women’s Writing Project, an online writing project helping girls and women in Afghanistan to express their stories, thoughts and dreams in writing. During those same years, Russell was a regular contributor to Women’s Voices for Change, an ezine with articles written to empower women over the age of forty. In 2015 she was a guest writer for curator Grace Ali’s OF NOTE: Where Art Meets Activism, an online activist art project made by NYU students. She also wrote Focus On: Contemporary Art published by Alinea A/S, Denmark (2009).



Conferences

In 2019, Russell attended the first Ceramics Triennial in Jaipur, India as a guest. In 2017, she and Yula Pauly presented a refugee/dating application project at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts’ Conference on Art and Activism. In 2013 and 2014, Russell participated in the Yale Writers’ Conference.
